چکیده

Methods We conducted a cross sectional study in a cohort of healthy schoolchildren, aged 8-13 years, by collecting information on family history of GJH and on history of TMJ involvement and performing a physical examination. This included height, weight, body surface area (BSA), body mass index (BMI), and musculoskeletal examination focused on the presence of GJH according to the Beighton criteria (BS≥4/9). TMJ evaluation included a complete gnathological visit, aimed to investigate the presence of TMJ disorders and to evaluate the MMO. The evaluation of TMFW was also performed and the Mouth Opening Ratio (MOR) was consequently calculated by the formula (MMO-TMFW)/MMOx100, adopting a 10% cut-off value to define the TMJ hypermobility.

Clinical measurement of normal maximum mouth opening in children.

This study was designed to find a method of assessing maximum mouth opening (MMO), using a tool that is proportional to the body size. One hundred two (102) children were selected to participate in the study. MMO, the width of three fingers (index, middle and ring fingers), four fingers (index, middle, ring and little fingers), body height, weight and age of each child were recorded, and the ab...

Morphometric Assessment of the Residual Width of the Distal Hamate Articular Surface after Graft Harvest for Hemi-hamate Arthroplasty

Background: The hemi-hamate arthroplasty (HHA) can restore joint congruity and stability in chronic fracturedislocationsof the proximal interphalangeal joint (PIPJ). Purpose of this study was to compare the width of the distalhamate articular surface (DHAS) to the width of the base of the middle phalanges (P2) of the fingers. We hypothesizedthe dimensions of the width of the D...

An index for the measurement of normal maximum mouth opening.

PURPOSE The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the width of 3 or 4 fingers of one hand and maximum mouth opening (MMO) in healthy subjects. METHODS One hundred and forty dental students (age 21 to 42 years, mean 27.4 years) participated in the study. The ability of each subject to position 3 or 4 fingers, vertically aligned, between the upper and lower central incisors...

PReS-FINAL-2004: Musculoskeletal pain in schoolchildren across puberty: a 3-year follow-up study

Introduction Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain (MSP) in children can be due to various non-inflammatory conditions, such as the benign joint hypermobility syndrome (BJHS) or idiopathic MSP (IMSP). MSP heavily influences patient’s quality of life and is often misdiagnosed or included in the vast category of unspecific MSP. A careful differential diagnosis and knowledge of possible risk factors are ne...

PReS-FINAL-2272: Association of benign joint hypermobility syndrome with mitral valve prolapsed in Iranian children

Methods Sixty-three children with benign joint hypermobility syndrome were included in case group and 63 without any rheumatologic disease were placed in control group. We used Carter-Wilkinson and Beighton criteria for diagnosing of benign joint hypermobility syndrome. MVP was evaluated by echocardiography in both groups. The mitral leaflet displacement >2 mm considered as cut off for diagnosi...
